Artist Biography

Marlin Rotach has known since a very early age that painting was his lifelong ambition.  Born and raised in Salina, Kansas, he earned a B.F.A. in painting from Kansas State University.  While attending K-State, he met and married his wife Carol.  Rotach went on to complete his M.F.A. at the University of Nebraska.  He then taught design, drawing, and painting at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

 

Since the mid-1990's Marlin Rotach has worked almost exclusively in watercolors, doing paintings for both galleries and private commissions.  He is a Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society as well as the Watercolor U.S.A. Honor Society.  In 2004, International Artist Magazine named him a Master Painter of the World.  His work has been featured in the North Light book 200 Great Painting Ideas, International Artist Magazine, as well as The Artist's Magazine.  In addition, Marlin was selected as the "featured artist" for the 2009  American Royal Western Art Exhibition and is a fine arts juror at the national level.

 

Rotach has participated in numerous juried national aquamedia shows with works being exhibited by such prestigious institutions as The National Watercolor Society (Signature Member), Watercolor U.S.A. (Signature Member & multiple Award Winner, including Best in Show), The American Watercolor Society, The Transparent Watercolor Society of America (Award Winner),The Rocky Mountain National Watermedia Society (Signature Member), The Celebration of Western Art-San Francisco (Best in Show Award), The Western Spirit Exhibition-Cheyenne (Best in Show Award),  Aqueous U.S.A.-(Best in Show Award),The Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors, The Philadelphia International Works on Paper Exhibition (Award Winner), The Niagara Frontier Transparent Watercolor Society (Best in Show Award), The Taos National Society of Watercolorists, The Grand National Watercolor Exhibition-Mississippi, The Kansas Watercolor Society (Signature Member and multiple Award Winner, including Best in Show), The Missouri Watercolor Society (Signature Member and Award Winner).

 

His paintings are in the collections of Bernstein-Rein Advertising, Eddie Bauer Corp., M & I Bank, Emprise Bank, Fidelity Bank, Koch Industries Inc., Governor Bill Graves (Kansas), Wyoming State Bank, Mark Shale Corp., Merrill Lynch, Quarterage Hotels, and the Wichita Center for the Arts (Permanent Collection).
